Density by Design is a factual web series produced by VAM Media, co-written by Brendan Hutchens and Josh Byrne. The series is part of a broader research project being undertaken by the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute for the CRC for Low Carbon Living. Project partners include the WA Government land development agency LandCorp, the City of Fremantle and Josh Byrne & Associates.
Being a web only series, the DENSITY X design website plays an integral part in delivering both the video content and a variety of extended information. To suit the highly architectural content – including a photo essays section for professional photographers – a minimal approach to the overall design style allows the videos and images to take center stage.
A colour palette was chosen to complement the initial logo artwork created by Mark Welsh (Fabrik) and a typographic style applied to suit the design brief and screen stills from Brendan Hutchens (VAM Media).
All videos are embedded from Vimeo, allowing them to be viewed on-page or in full screen mode. The website also provides for PDF downloads of interview transcripts and other project related information. Using WordPress as the CMS allows Josh Byrne & Associates to easily update content and create new article posts.
Previous experience collaborating with this team on various projects helped enormously with delivering another high-caliber project focused towards how we can live sustainably now and into the future.
